Roots Rock Prof Kristen Black is Back

Kristen Black is a roots rock singer-songwriter and chemistry professor out of San Luis Obispo who appreciates science, smiles, bicycles, and kind souls. Black draws from so many different styles when she writes a song. Her main influences are Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Chicago Blues, Prince, and The Pretenders. Says Glen Starkey of New Times, "On her sophomore solo release, Can’t Bring Me Down, Kristen Black proves she’s a musical chameleon, playing everything from hooky pop on lead track “The One” to Tedeschi Trucks Band-style funk-blues on 'Fortunate One.'"

Special guests include Tim Jackson, Kate Steinway, and Matt Yaki.

Showcase runs 6:30-9:00 at 7Sisters Brewing, 181 Tank Farm Rd. (at Long St., just north of Higuera), San Luis Obispo, (805) 868-7133. All ages OK. The showcase includes one featured act, playing a 45-minute set to close out the night, and others playing 4-song sets. No cover charge, but we pass the tip bucket for the featured act. Craft beers, food available too.
